The first legal casino will be built in Israel on the North coast of the Red Sea. The Ministry of Tourism and Land Control of the country made a decision to allocate a parcel of land for gambling facilities. The Israel’s largest Center of Congresses, together with hotels, stores and entertainment centers will be erected next to the casino. The minister of tourism Itskhak Aronovich expressed confidence that this solution will mark the beginning of rapid growth of legal gambling industry in Israel. The minister of tourism, ex- police general, is sure, that the presence of the casino will not only generate more revenues from tourism, but will also lower crime rates. It also reported that another target of this project is the attraction of tourists to Israel, which as of today is lagging far behind the neighbors in this region. Hundreds of underground casinos and other gambling institutions are active on the territory of Israel alongside with Internet sites for gambling amateurs. The criminal structures, which have illegally developed gambling business in the country, earn $14 billion per year. Until recently casinos functioned in Palestine. However, Palestinian parliament made a decision to close them. The Oasis casino was opened in 1998, with about 23% of shares belonging to the authorities of autonomy. The institution was one of the profitable ventures generating a lot of income for the national budget and providing jobs for 5 thousand Palestinians. Casino attracted many tourists. Luxurious hotels, golf- courses and restaurants were constructed around the Oasis. Before al -Aksy uprising many Israelis used to attend this casino. However, immediately after the beginning of the uprising (in the fall of 2000) the incomes of the casino sharply suffered as the government of Israel forbade its citizens to enter Palestine. According to the data of tour agencies, every third Israeli tourist on a trip abroad, goes to the casino. Israelis include casino in the program of their leisure on the same level as theaters and museums, attempting to spend an evening in comfort.
